Janice Olivia Copeland Barnes was born on August 10, 1954 to James and Elizabeth Copeland. She grew up in Franklin, VA, attending Camptown Elementary School and Windsor High School, Class of 1974.

At an early age, Janice gave her life to Christ and became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Franklin, VA. Upon relocating to Petersburg, VA, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending regularly.

Janice was proudly employed by Sear's Department Store for 35 years until her retirement in May 2011.

She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Linda Wright.

Left to mourn her memory: her loving husband, George D. Barnes; son, Stefan L. Barnes; grandson, Deonte L. Barnes (Deseree); great-grandchildren, Aaniah, Peyton, Paige, Paris, and Deonte Jr.; brother, James Copeland (Edna); sister, Peggy Andrews; and a host of aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Janice loved her family and friends. She especially adored being a mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. Her love defined her very being so that the memories created will be cherished forever.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Highway, Franklin, VA, Pastor Alfred D. Brown, Sr., Pastor, Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., eulogist and Minister Dr. Mildred Cross, officiating. The interment to follow at Southview Cemetery.

A wake will be held from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 26, 2025, at the funeral establishment.
