Obituary

Jacqueline "Jackie" Hunter, 69, of Petersburg, VA, received her heavenly wings on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Born on May 22, 1956, to the late James Hunter, Jr. and Inez B. Hunter. Jackie was a shining light whose love, laughter, and faith touched everyone she encountered.

Jackie gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained a devoted member of New First Baptist Church in Petersburg. She served as an usher and on the Women's Ministry. She worked faithfully for over thirty years at Southside Virginia Training Center where her compassion and dedication left a lasting mark. After retirement, she continued to serve in several nursing homes throughout the community, before her final retirement from the Petersburg Home for Ladies. Caring for others was not just her job, it was her ministry.

Jackie's greatest joy came from loving her family and friends. With a Bible in her hand and a western on the TV, she found peace in simple pleasures. She carried herself with grace and a quiet strength, always giving more than she received and spreading encouragement wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Inez B. Hunter; three sisters, Barbra Brewer, Vivian Johnson and Carolyn Hunter; one brother, Leonard Boone; nephew, Michael Brewer; a cherished great niece, Nikki Brewer; and great-great nephew, Timarr Godette.

Jackie's legacy of love and devotion lives on in her daughters, Inez L. Hunter and Monique Hunter; her beloved grandchildren, Tre'Von Lee-Hunter, Arnaejah Spratley, Tremell Missouri, Tyonna Missouri, and Jaquaya Pettaway; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will continue to celebrate her memory.

Jackie's life was a melody of faith, service, and love - a song that will never fade. Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
