Obituary

Jacqueline Corlette Fleming, age 76, of Chesapeake, Virginia and formerly of Ettrick, Virginia transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Affectionately known as Jackie, she was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, cousin and aunt.  Jackie was a woman whose life radiated faith, integrity and generosity.

Jackie was born on September 18, 1949, in Raleigh, North Carolina and was the beloved daughter of the late Bruce Eugene Fleming, Sr. and Ruth Magalene Lewis Fleming. She received her early education at Chesterfield County Schools, graduating from Matoaca High School in 1967. She also had the opportunity to attend an international school in Nigeria during her high school years while her father was serving with USAID.  Following high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Hampton Institute (University) in Hampton, Virginia in 1971.

Jackie was baptized at a young age at Gillfield Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. After moving to Washington, DC she joined and served at Mount Horeb Baptist Church. She returned to Gillfield Baptist Church when she moved back home to care for her parents. When she relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia six years ago, she joined Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. She served diligently in various ministries within these churches, and she loved her church families deeply. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was unwavering, and her life was a testimony of humility, service and devotion to God and family.

Professionally, she was a hardworking and dedicated employee for the federal government in Washington, DC, where she worked for three agencies until her retirement after 35 years of service. A gifted seamstress, Jackie had a love for sewing quilts. Over the years, she shared her gift of sewing with many people who valued her generosity and her joyful spirit. Jackie also enjoyed researching her family tree and genealogy, sitting with a jigsaw puzzle for hours, and brainstorming creative ways to connect the Fleming family through activities like custom word searches and family vacation t-shirts. Above all, she treasured her family.

Her guidance, wisdom, and quiet strength were constants in their lives. Many cherished conversations were held on the telephone or in–person where she shared stories, counsel and encouragement. Her peaceful spirit, gentle presence, and steady love will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Ruth Fleming. Jackie leaves to cherish her memory with her loving siblings, Bruce Fleming, Jr. (Cheryl), Shelia Fleming, and Gregory Fleming (Janet); her devoted nieces and nephews, Nicole Abraham (Eric), Justin Fleming, Jasmine Harrison, Brandon Fleming, Jared Fleming, Bradford Fleming and Cameron Fleming; great niece and nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family members, church families and friends who will forever honor her memory.

Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, love, wisdom and service will live through every life she touched. We rejoice knowing she is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. George W.C. Lyons, Jr., Pastor, officiating and the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey V. Guns, eulogist. The interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to Diabetes Sisters of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Hampton University Alumni Association-Class of 1971, Hampton, Virginia in loving memory of Jacqueline C. Fleming.
