Mrs. Irene T. Freeman, affectionately known as "Bean", departed this life on April 29, 2025, at Johnston-Willis Hospital. She was born April 6, 1933, to the late Susie Lee and Lafayette Turner. Irene was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmo; son, Larry Freeman; five brothers and two sisters.

With deep sorrow and loving memories, we announce the passing of Irene Freeman, a truly selfless and caring soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. Irene's heart was as vast as it was kind. She never hesitated to go out of her way to help anyone in need, offering compassion, support, and unconditional love without expecting anything in return.

Family was the center of Irene's life. She loved and cherished her children dearly: Vernon Freeman (Gale), Gwendolyn Batts (Roger) and Elmer Freeman. Her nurturing spirit continued to shine through her relationships with her grandchildren: Vernise Smith (Warren), Roger Batts, Jr. (Tameka), Latoria Freeman (Greg) and Vernon Freeman (Emma). Irene also leaves behind seven beloved great grandchildren: Vanessa, Jordan, Amya, Jayden, Rosie, Diaja, and Vernon III.

Irene's legacy was one of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and community. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a testament to the beauty of a giving heart, and her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Pastor Keith Jones, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.

Irene's favorite color was any shade of blue and we kindly ask that if you have it, please wear it to the service in her honor.
