Harry M.
Pierce
Apr 24, 1932 — Apr 30, 2026
Mr. Harry Pierce of 1817 Owens Court, Hopewell, VA, departed this life on April 30, 2026, at his residence. He was born on April 24, 1932, to the late Junius and Dinah Burrell Pierce in Surry County, VA.
Harry joined Gravel Hill Baptist Church at a very young age and served on the Usher Board. On Father's Day in 2018, he was recognized as one of the oldest members of the church.
In his spare time, Harry enjoyed going fishing. As a former member of Salisbury Hunt Club, he was proud of the many deer he laid to rest and brought them home where he would display their heads.
Harry retired from Stone Container in Hopewell, VA in 1995 as a crane operator.
Harry faithfully visited several nursing facilities and took the time to visit each patient, whether he knew them or not. He found joy in feeding them and telling his jokes to make them laugh. To add to his weekly, sometimes daily pleasures, Harry would walk along the waterfront at City Point Waterfront until his health began to decline.
Harry was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Gracie Flowers Pierce; daughter, Monica Pierce Wooden; brothers, Preston, Charlie and Pleasant Pierce; stepdaughter, Glinda Coleman; stepsons, Leon, Lorenzo and Morris Coleman; great granddaughter, Baby Zeanna Snead; great grandsons, Jeramyah Pierce and Orlando Monroe, Jr.; step-grandsons, Anthony and Shandell Coleman; step-great grandson, Jire Barnes; and a devoted companion, Thelma Coleman.
Harry leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Diane (Floyd Dodson), Mildred, Jacquelin (Richard Langhorne) and Michelle; sons, Harry Pierce, Jr. (Kathleen) and Ronzell Pierce; stepdaughters, Christine (James Barnes) and Mary; sixty-three grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; twenty-eight step great grandchildren; thirteen step great-great grandchildren; one brother, Franklin Pierce; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Abundant Life Christian Church, 784 Cabin Point Road, Spring Grove, VA, Pastor Leon Pettaway, eulogist, the Rev. Anthony Washington, officiant. The interment to follow at The Pierce Family Cemetery.
