Obituary

To God be the glory!

Gregory Stanley Jones, Sr, was born to the late Joseph and Maggie Jones in Petersburg, VA on April 8,1954. His sunset was on April 3, 2026.

Gregory had a sweet, quiet, and calm spirit. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He also loved nature and animals. He taught his children many useful life skills such as caring for dogs, swim safety, fiscal responsibility and operating machinery. During his early years of life, he loved to fish, jet ski, snow ski and swim. He was a great swimmer and even saved several lives from drowning.

As a native of Petersburg, Gregory grew up acquiring a few nicknames, most notably "Joe", "Snoop" and "Snout". As a kid, Greg bought a pony, whom he named Penny, with the money he earned working on a paper route. At 12 years old, he sold his pony and bought a motorbike, which most likely ignited his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Gregory was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and graduated from Petersburg High School. He was a hard worker and retired at the age of 62. Post retirement, Gregory loved to spend time with his family. He would enjoy spending most of his time "putting something on the grill", as he would often say, with his best friend and brother Ricky, sitting out listening to his oldies, and laughing at the grandkids running around.

He was preceded by his two sisters, Jean Jones and Gloria Jones Copeland; as well as his two brothers, Joseph "Baby Joe" Jones, Jr. and Thomas "Lurch" Jones; and a host of other relatives.

Gregory leaves to cherish his memories to his former wife, Kim Jones; his daughter, Dr. Naitia Nwatu (Henry); his son, Gregory Jones, Jr. (Shedana); his grandchildren, Tochi and Shiloh Nwatu; his sister, Priscilla Jones-Cayson (William); his brothers, Edwin Jerome Jones and Melvin Ricky Jones (Thelma); his "fur-child" chihuahua, Qui Qui; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
