Obituary

Gloria, through the different generations was lovingly called, "Glo, Aunt Glo, GoGo and GG," transitioned peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Bolling and Janice Mountcastle Jones. At an early age, Gloria dedicated her life to God and was baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Since COVID-19, she faithfully attended Trinity's online services. She was the eldest of three children. Gloria grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1964. Secondary education was obtained at John Tyler Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. She retired from Southside Regional Medical Center as an EEG Technician.

Gloria enjoyed spending time with her family and friends but her true passion was making Meals and Memories. Throughout the years, for each holiday and for each individual's birthday, she prepared their favorite meal including all their favorite fixings. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, and she was a missionary in her own rite spreading loving care to everyone. Cooking was her gift, she provided meals for the sick and shut-in as well as the homeless society. During COVID-19, she prepared meals to be delivered to those who were homeless and housed in hotels. She was an honorary member of the PROS ministry always eager to participate in all of Trinity Baptist Church's in-reach and out-reach programs. Gloria had a special love for her dogs, (Ricco, Rondo and Blue); she also prepared special meals for them as they brought great joy to her life.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories, a husband John B. Phillips; a sister, Dianne Thorpe of Henrico, Virginia, and a brother, Melvin (Vivian) Jones of Palm Bay, Florida; nephews, Tijuan Thorpe (Tanya) of North Chesterfield, VA, Timothy Thorpe of Henrico, VA, and Rashan Jones (Danielle) of Port St Lucie, Florida; five brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, two devoted cousins, Kermit Edwards and Olivia Joseph; and a host of great nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church, 2811 Fendall Avenue, Richmond, VA, the Rev. Dr. A. Lincoln James, Jr., Pastor, eulogist.
