Obituary

Evon Shaw, Jr., of Chesterfield Virgina, was born to the late Evon Shaw, Sr. and Nancy Henderson Berry on September 16, 1950, in Morristown, New Jersey. He departed this life on November 5, 2025, at Henrico Doctors' Hospital.

Evon, better known as "Butch", grew up in Morristown, New Jersey, and spent some of his teenage years in North Carolina with his grandparents. He attended Madison County Public Schools. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on April 17, 1969. He fought in the Vietnam War and was wounded a couple years later. Due to the injuries he sustained while serving, he was honorably discharged on November 3, 1971, receiving a Purple Heart for his sacrifice to his country.

After transitioning from the military, Butch moved back to New Jersey where he married Blanche Jackson, and from their union three sons were born. Later in life, he moved to Richmond, Virginia in 1998. Butch became a licensed truck driver for a few years and later retired due to health reasons. Even through his battle with cancer and COPD, it never stopped him from enjoying life. Butch loved traveling with his family, visiting different places and other countries. He enjoyed personal conversations with friends and family talking about God and faith. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his loving heart and gracious giving, especially during holidays.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents and his two beloved sisters, Cynthia Sally Hogan and Deborah Young.

He leaves to cherish his memory: four sons, Jarrodd Shaw, St. John Forschner, Jason Shaw (Gina) and Brian Shaw (Lisa); nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one loving and devoted niece, Angela Carter (Olando); five nephews, James Murray (Cheryl), Troy Murray (Deloris), Jermaine Sally (Michelle), Shamar Young (Julie) and Richard Dortch; ten great nephews; two great-great nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
