Obituary

Ernestine Savannah Crews peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Dinwiddie Health & Rehabilitation Center.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Hansard, and her mother, Virgie Lee Carter.

Ernestine was born on June 21, 1937, in Petersburg, VA. Tina, as she was affectionately known, left an authentic impression on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Tina retired from the Fort Lee Billeting Office in Environmental Services, where she was recognized for her leadership, strong work ethic, and dependability.  She was a member of the Greater Faith A.M.E. Zion Church in Petersburg, VA. She found the greatest joy spending time with her loved ones and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and inspiration with them.

Outside of work and family, Tina lived life her way. A woman of many passions, she was an avid softball player during her early years, where her competitive and playful spirit came alive. She was a dedicated fan of her favorite soap opera, "The Young and the Restless", and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles until her passing. She enjoyed the excitement of BINGO and casino trips, always ready to celebrate victories with her signature smile.

Tina is now reunited with her ten siblings: her sisters, Elizabeth, Delois, and Ollie-Mae Crews, Etta Quickley and Gertrude Burnley; brothers, Walter, David, Lawrence and William Crews, and George Howard. She was also preceded in passing by her devoted niece, Patricia Quickley; and beloved grandchildren, DeBrecca Ridges and Corey Love.

Tina is survived by her five children, Sherman Crews (Dorleen) of Portsmouth, VA, Wayne Crews (Sheila) of Temple Hills, MD, and Wanda Crews-Jones (Randolph), Dennis Crews and Virgie Crews all of Petersburg, VA. She is lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Sherman Mason, Katrina and Brittini Crews, Wayne and Andrea Bland, Tyriece Murray, Dennis and Devon Boyd. Tina had thirty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She had three devoted nieces: Ireatha Barber, Verline Crews and DeShaun Smith, as well as a host of special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tina had treasured memories with her longtime friends, Cathy Jordan and Marie Love.

Tina's life was defined by love for her family, resilience, and her unwavering strength. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Higher Way Ministries, 515 Virginia Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Bishop Darren L. Gay, Sr., Pastor and Pastor David Jones, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
