Miranda S. Eley

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7

God in all His infinite wisdom, called home Ms. Miranda Shavon Eley on Thursday September 10, 2026, after a lengthy illness at Creekside Post Acute in Hopewell, VA. Born November 20, 1982, Miranda was a devoted and concerned mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend.

Miranda was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Virginia and received her education from the Brunswick County Public School System. She had a compassion for caregiving which resulted in her serving in the health care field as an aide and companion. She also enjoyed driving and as a result started her own transportation business, where she remained dedicated until her health began to fail. Miranda’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandson, Zyeirre Story-Smith and her nephew, Jayce Drayton whom she affectionately called, “Jayce The Mace.”

Miranda was preceded in death by her mother, Miranda Mitelda Eley; grandparents, Frank Lee Williams, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Williams; aunts, Dorothy M. Walker and Doris M. Stith; and her uncles, Jerry A. Williams and Bernard S. Williams.

Miranda is survived by her sons, Dayshaun Smith and Nicholas Smith whom she loved with her whole heart and devoted her life to their upbringing; grandson, Zyeirre Story Smith; aunts, Eunice L. Harper (William), Barbara Ann Evans, Brenda Lee Ferguson and Maggie Williams who natured and aided in raising Miranda into adulthood; uncles, Frank Lee Williams, Jr., Orange Louis Williams (Deloris) and Alexander Williams (Penny); devoted cousin who was more like a brother, James “Pooh” Evans, Jr.; godmother, Angela “Juicy” Drayton; loyal and dedicated friends, Rhonda Harden and Esperanzia Williams; companion and father figure to her children, Connell “Moon” Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
