Edwin S.
Coleman, Jr. "Son"
Jul 8, 1971 — May 13, 2026
Edwin S. Coleman, Jr., affectionately known as "Son", and deeply loved by family and friends, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at his residence.
Born on July 8, 1971, in Petersburg, Virginia, Edwin was the beloved son of Deborah Coleman and the late Edwin S. Coleman, Sr. of Petersburg, Virginia. Son was a man whose life reflected a genuine commitment to family and friends. His warm spirit, caring heart, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Son was a graduate of Petersburg High School Class of 1989 and studied for a while at Virginia State University. His professional career started at the Ingram Book Company, where he worked faithfully until the company closed. It was during this season of his life that he met the love of his life, Tammy Crenshaw, whom he married in 1995. Following the closing of The Book Company, Son's career opportunities expanded through Sabra, Alstom, Tate, Wal-Mart to Philip Morris USA, where he dedicated many years of faithful service until his passing.
Son was a devoted sports lover. In high school, Son played baseball, football and basketball. Known to be a die-hard Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Braves fan, he stood loyal through every high, low, and hopeful "maybe next season" moment. His love for sports extended beyond cheering from the sidelines. Son played softball for several years with the Black Sox baseball team, bringing his own competitive spirit and passion to the game. But perhaps one of his greatest joys was being "Dad" to two athletic sons, who, through his support and encouragement, would prove to be star high school basketball players. He was the kind of father who wholeheartedly supported his sons' athletic endeavors—attending games, and quite possibly believing he was part of the coaching staff. He was, without question, one of their biggest and proudest fans. He coached in both Petersburg and Chesterfield County Recreational Departments and was affectionately known as Coach Coleman.
Son was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, caring brother, proud grandfather, beloved uncle, and faithful friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Tammy Coleman; his beloved mother, Deborah Coleman; his sons, Khalil and Kaleb Coleman of Chesterfield; his treasured granddaughter, Kamilah Coleman Ingles; his siblings, Sonya Coleman of Petersburg; Kewana and Kawana Drew of Chesterfield; and Rafael Saunders of Petersburg; and a host of beloved uncles and aunts.
He is also lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Barbara McCadden (Johnny) of North Dinwiddie; his brothers-in-law, Shawn Crenshaw (Monnie); Cordell Wheat (Michelle) of Sutherland; Mario Hooper (Sharon) of Petersburg; Robert Truly of Chesterfield; Darryl McCadden of Petersburg; and sisters-in-law, Yolanda Hargraves of Petersburg and Michelle Crenshaw of Richmond.
Also, cherishing his memory are a host of beloved nieces and nephews, including devoted nephews, L'Trell Spratley, Jalen Taylor and niece, Chanae Billie (Lance); along with devoted friends, Robert Barlow and Antoine Bugg.
