Duane “Butch” Eugene Jordan, of North Dinwiddie, Virginia, departed this life at home on September 4, 2026, at the age of 82, following a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was born on April 12, 1944, in Olean, New York.
Duane attended Thomas Dale High School. He was a proud Vietnam veteran who served six years in the United States Army with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Special Forces.
Duane had a great love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, and learning about Bigfoot, however of all his favorite pastimes, fishing held a special place in his heart.
Although Duane battled cancer during the last year of his life, he rarely complained—except when he had to go to the doctor or wait at home for the nurse, because it took time away from going fishing.
He treasured the time he spent talking with his numerous fishing buddies and the many friends he made through Parks and Recreation. He often shared stories about the people he met while working along the trails and how their dogs would come running to greet him as soon as they saw his van.
After retiring from Chesterfield County, where he worked as a Diesel Technician, Duane went on to work for Colonial Heights Parks and Recreation. His job involved clearing debris, overgrowth, and dead or fallen trees from the lakes, riverbanks, and trails—a job he did very well. Duane simply loved being outdoors. Being surrounded by nature made him happy, and his work allowed him to spend his days doing what he loved.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Catherine Jordan, and his mother-in-law, Mary Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of almost 18 years, Barbara Jordan; sons, William “Buck” Jordan and fiancée Charity, and Michael Jordan; stepchildren, Nancy Lory and Joseph, and George Ray II and Karen; grandchildren, Garen Jordan and Haley, Jacob Jordan and Lanie, and Kaitlyn Jordan; bonus grandchildren, Jeffrey Everette, Kimberly Lory, Michelle Lory, Timothy Ray and Kaylie, Joshua Kapanowski and Jessie, Joshua Garrett and Jamie, Nicholas Garrett and Ashley, and Emily Ray; bonus great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Everette, Jr., Noah Everette, Lory Betties, Hailey McWhorther, Audry McWhorter, James McWhorter, Joseph Holet, Nancy Holet, Austin Reed, Victoria Garrett, Kelcie Kapanowski, Lucas Kapanowski, Kylei Ray, Jace Ray, Ava Ray, Kaylie Ray, Paislee Garrett, Denver Garrett, and Nathan Garrett; and bonus great-great-grandchild, Azalea Dayton.
The family extends special thanks to Mary and Gordon Vaughan, Sharon Perkinson, Brenda Martin, Rick Turpin and Gail, Kevin, Earl, Sandy Braddus, El Edward and Mary, and Rose Tate for their devoted time, care, food, and support. Duane was blessed with numerous other devoted friends and loved ones, far too many to mention by name, whose friendship and kindness were deeply appreciated.
