Dorothy A.
Harris
Apr 7, 1954 — Mar 22, 2026
Dorothy Ann Harris, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted woman of faith, departed this life at her home on March 22, 2026, at the age of 71. Dorothy was born on April 7, 1954, to the late Graham Holmes and Francis Holmes. Dorothy received her education through the Mecklenburg County School system and attended Park View High School in South Hill, Virginia. She went on to build a strong and admirable work ethic, dedicating over 20 years of service to Burlington Industries. She later served 25 years with Chesterfield County Public Schools before retiring. Never one to sit still, she continued to serve others by working an additional five years at Ascend Health Adult Retreat Adult Day Care.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy was baptized at an early age and became a member of Lombardy Grove Baptist Church, South Hill, VA. She later joined Oak Grove Baptist Church, Chesterfield, VA. She served on the usher board as the chairman for many years. Dorothy pursued theological studies and earned her diploma. She loved reading the Bible and sharing the goodness of the Lord with everyone she encountered. Her faith was not only spoken but lived through her actions.
Dorothy had a passion for gardening and found joy in nurturing both plants and people. Each year, she cultivated a garden in her backyard and took pride in tending to her flowers inside and outside her home. Her love for beauty and care extended beyond her own yard, as she often planted flowers for others, bringing life and color wherever she went. She was truly a missionary at heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. She also loved to travel and stay active, embracing life with energy and enthusiasm. Dorothy was known for her vibrant spirit and her refusal to let "grass grow under her feet."
Dorothy Ann Harris will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, her servant's heart, and her deep love for her family and community. Her legacy of compassion and strength will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 31 years, Cleveland Harris; her brothers, Jerry Holmes and Billy Holmes. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sons, Kevin Jiggetts, Theo Jiggetts (Patrice Jiggetts), and Marlow Jiggetts (Sheila Rhames); and her bonus daughter, Connie Elam (Archie Elam). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jairon Jiggetts, PFC Jailen Jiggetts, Montrel Harris, and ShaNiese Ransom (Ervin Ransom), and a treasured great grandmother to Jamir Jiggetts, TraNiyah Baker, Armani Cammack, Montague Cammack Jr., Latrel Harris, Cairo Harris, and Emiyah Ransom. Dorothy is also survived by her siblings, Mary Hargraves, Connie Jones, and Bonnie White (Michael White); and her sisters in law, Cynthia Holmes and Bessie Harris, and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. She shared special bonds with, and a cherished circle of friends known as The Golden Girls Club: Mary Cox, Ann Melton, Delerita Creed, Gloria Henley, Shirley Bates, Linda Cox, and Alice McMillian and some of her dear friends Natalie Thrash, Mary Harvey, and Juanita Campbell.
