Obituary

Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life… shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Mr. Derrick Lamont Comer of Hopewell, Virginia, departed this life far too soon on August 21, 2025, in Hopewell. He was born on January 26, 1967, in Mt. Sinai, New York, to Kathy Comer and the late Leroy Brockenbough.

Derrick had a voice that made you pause — not because it was loud, but because it carried peace. With his old soul, warm heart, and distinct laugh, he left fingerprints of kindness on every life he touched. He loved deeply — his mother, his children, his siblings, his family. Derrick showed up with help, humor, and heart. His life was a gift. His memory is a treasure. His presence is missed — but his spirit lives on, in wind and breath and love.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Brockenbough; bonus dad, Edward Rogers; his maternal grandmother, Mary Reed; his great-grandparents, Mary and James Comer; and his brother, James "Nene" Comer.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Kathy Comer and stepfather, Norman Jefferson of Hopewell, Virginia. His greatest joys were his children: daughter, Debony Comer and son, Derrick Jefferson both of Hopewell, Virginia. Derrick also cherished his sister, Dia Grice (Richard) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and brother, Edward Rogers (Nicole) of Chester, Virginia.

He was adored by his aunts, Christine Medley and Debra Ford (Kenneth) of New York, Regina Myrick of Washington, DC, and Vanessa Rush of Oxon Hill, Maryland. He also shared a special bond with his bonus aunts, Fran Jones, Charlmayne Alston, and Michelle Perry whose love and presence brought him joy throughout his life.

Derrick will be remembered fondly by his nieces, Breshay Trotter, Ciera Rogers, Keyera Rogers, Sidney Brooks (Joshua), and Bailee Comer; his nephews, Timothy Parks and Richard Grice; among his closest bonds was that with his devoted cousin, Regina Myrick. Derrick also leaves behind his beloved fiancée, Cindy Wyatt, and his bonus son, Andre Parker both of whom brought him immeasurable joy.

He will be deeply missed by the Rogers family, along with countless friends and loved ones who will forever hold his memory close.
