Obituary

With gratitude for a life well lived and faith unwavering, we celebrate the life of Deaconess Gladys Walker Wyatt, who peacefully departed this life on August 4, 2026, at the age of 95. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, kindness, and devotion to God that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED THE RACE, I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH.

NOW THERE IS IN STORE FOR ME THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her parents, John Preston and Susie Street Walker; her husband of thirty-two plus years, Mr. Joseph J.T. Wyatt; her oldest daughter, Cheryl Wyatt; grandchildren, Phillip E. and Joseph C. Williams; great grandchild, Tevin Coleman; siblings, Ida Walker Bower, Rueben Walker, Vester Walker, Susie Walker Lundy, Leonard P. Walker, Aldopus Walker and Lillie Mae Faison; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Born on January 9, 1931, Gladys lived a life centered on her faith in Jesus Christ. Even as a young child growing up in her home church, Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, her relationship with God guided her every step and shaped the way she cared for others. She believed that one of the greatest ways to serve God was by serving people, and she faithfully demonstrated that belief throughout her life.

Gladys Wyatt dedicated many years of her professional life to caring for others as an EKG Technician at the Petersburg General Hospital, and John Randolph Hospital. She took pride in her work and understood the importance of compassion, comfort, and excellence in healthcare. Through her dedication and gentle spirit, she touched countless lives before retiring after many years of faithful service.

Beyond her career, Gladys Wyatt was known for her warm heart and generous nature. She loved cooking for family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals, but more importantly, it was filled with love. She found joy in feeding others, encouraging them, and sharing God's goodness through simple acts of kindness.

Her life reflected the words of scripture and the character of the Virtuous Woman described in Proverbs 31.

"She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness." - Proverbs 31:26

Her family was one of her greatest treasures. She nurtured and supported those she loved, creating a foundation of faith, love and strength that will continue for generations. She leaves to cherish those fond and lasting memories her beloved son, Mr. William Walker, Jr. (Dorthy) of Dinwiddie, VA; loving and devoted daughter/caregiver, Mrs. Jocelyn Wyatt Williams (Roderick Williams, Sr.) of Chester, VA; honorary daughter, Jennifer Hill; grandchildren, Tiffany Coleman, Corey Lassiter, Montquel Wyatt, Sr. (TaNesha) who was raised as her son, TaCheryl Williams, Roderick Williams, Jr., Destini Faye Williams, Michelle Williams, Keiyan Price (Kira), Arkema Price (Desiree) and Ronnie Price, Jr.; great grandchildren, Montquel Wyatt, Jr., Ma'Kyle, Trequel, Brooklynn Wyatt; honorary grandchildren, Wilbur Harrison, John Sykes III (Shari), Jurrell Sykes, Jarvis Sykes and Demetrius Murray; loving and loyal sister, Ruth Lee; sisters-in-law, Mary Walker and Nancy Wyatt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends too numerous to name, yet each knew how special they were to her.

Above all else, Gladys Wyatt feared and honored the Lord. Her faith was evident not only in what she said but in how she lived. She trusted God through every season of life and remained faithful to him until the very end. Later in life, her family transitioned to Petersburg, VA, and she moved her membership to Royal Baptist Church where she faithfully and diligently served on several ministries within the church, until her health started to decline. She served in the Deaconess Ministry, Senior's Choir, Senior's Ministry, Missionary, Pastor's Aide, and the Hospitality Ministry. Gladys Wyatt loved to serve the Lord and others. She had a Sweet Holy Spirit about her.

The love and unique bond that Aunt Gladys shared with her nieces and nephews was treasured dearly. She personalized it by emphasizing MY before she called their names because they were so special to her.

Today, while our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior, whom she faithfully loved and served throughout her life. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the family she cherished and the faith she so beautifully exemplified.

May we honor her memory by living with the same compassion, generosity, faithfulness, and love that she shared so freely.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and joyfully remembered.

May the Work I've done speak for me!
