Deaconess Ethel
Marie “Ree” Jones
Nov 27, 1935 — Sep 28, 2025
Deaconess Ethel Marie Jones "Ree" graciously entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie V. Mason and her husband, James H. Jones. To those who loved her most and knew her best, she was simply Ree.
Marie was born on November 27, 1935, in Sussex County, Virginia. As a child, she attended Loco Elementary School and Sussex County Training School. Marie's Christian Walk began at an early age when she accepted Christ and was baptized at Hunting Quarter Baptist Church. She moved to Brooklyn, New York as a teenager and continued her high school education at Girls' High.
Marie returned to Stony Creek in 1974 where she was married and where she accepted a position at Virginia State University. She was employed as a secretary in the Department of Institutional Research for over thirty (30) years. Upon her return to Stony Creek, she rejoined Hunting Quarter Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Galilee Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Deaconess.
Deaconess Jones was a joyous person who loved her family and friends. She had a special love for all babies and small children. Marie was a fun-loving person with a joke for everyone she met.
Deaconess Jones leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, Tameka D. Jones, a granddaughter, Tatyana Rose, and a great granddaughter Gianna Marie Cozier, all of Chester, VA. She is survived by five step children and their families. She leaves treasured memories with a special cousin, Carolyn Mason, a host of other cousins and dear friends to include her best friend of over 60 years, Mrs. Elizabeth C. Massenburg and a devoted friend, Bernice Potts.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 6, 2025, at Galilee Baptist Church, 12392 Lee Avenue, Stony Creek, VA, the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Franklin, Pastor.
