Obituary

Our hearts were deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved, Deaconess Kathleen Davis Ampy of 23318 Williamson Road, Dinwiddie VA. Kathleen was born on April 11, 1936, in Petersburg, VA and transitioned to her heavenly home on July 1, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Charles Hall Davis and Mrs. Elnora Wynn Davis; sister, Frances Fitzgerald; brothers-in- law, Leroy and Everette Ampy; sisters-in-law, Geraldine, Martha, Shirley and Annie Mae Ampy and Gertrude Sain; and her devoted husband, Deacon Thomas E. Ampy.

Kathleen was baptized at an early age and was a member of Baptist Temple in Petersburg, VA. She graduated from high school in Petersburg, VA and later married the late Deacon Thomas Earl Ampy.  She became a member of Gravel Run Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA after the marriage. Kathleen and Thomas shared a lifetime together full of love and dedication to one another that included 59 years of marriage and the birth of 8 children prior to his death due to illness in January 2013. Kathleen cared deeply for her husband and family as she consistently showered them with unconditional love and continuously covered them in prayer in her role as a full-time stay-at-home parent. She believed in maintaining traditions and the necessity of family unity. At her home, there was always great company, good food, lively conversation and large family dinners on Sundays. Her nurturing personality endeared many to her. She was able to form lasting relationships with her neighbors, the friends of her children and others in the church and community.

Kathleen served as a Deaconess, was part of the Missionary Ministry and served as one of the Mothers of the church at Gravel Run Baptist Church. She actively participated in Sunday School and attended church regularly until her recent illness. Kathleen interacted with everyone who she encountered with open arms,  a welcoming heart and kind words. She loved to help others, socialize with people and make people smile. She could often be heard saying, "Let's make some noise" during church service. With regards to her character, she believed in forgiveness and showing compassion to others. She loved God, her family, friends and people in general. She had a special way of making everyone feel as if they were her favorite people. She was affectionately called "Mother Ampy" by many. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading books, watching Westerns, completing cross-word puzzles, tending to the numerous flowers in her flower garden, chauffeuring her grandchildren in golf-carts around the property and spending time with her family and friends.

Kathleen's memory will forever be cherished by her four sons, Maurice R. Ampy, Trustee Thomas S. Ampy (Annette), Herman L. Ampy and Deacon Timothy R. Ampy, Sr. (Wanda); four daughters, Rev. Sylvia F.
