David R.
Weeks, Sr.
Feb 28, 1944 — Jan 27, 2026
David Weeks, Sr, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and devoted friend, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2026, at the age of 81. David was born in Richmond, VA on February 28,1944, to Roland and Rachel Weeks. He is survived by his children, David Weeks, Jr. and Teresa Isquith; grandchildren, Brandon "Matt" Weeks, Kris and Sara Isquith; brothers and sisters, Jeannette Tinsley, Jean Mundie, Roland Weeks, Sr., Ducky Weeks and Harold Weeks Sr., and twelve nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane; parents, Roland and Rachel Weeks; and close brother, Eddie Weeks. Known to many as a "tough cookie" with a heart of gold, he faced life's challenges—and his final illness—with an inspiring courage and grace that never faltered.
A proud member of Ironworkers Local 28, David spent his career high above the streets of Richmond, New York City, and New Jersey. While he was known for his climbing and welding skills, his greatest joy on the job was the camaraderie. He was fortunate to work surrounded by lifelong friends, turning hard labor into a backdrop for the brotherhood he cherished. After hours, he was a loyal member of the Chesterfield Moose Lodge, gathering with friends and supporting charitable events.
When he wasn't on a job site, he was likely on the water. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found peace and excitement in the rhythm of the tides. Whether he was pulling catfish and crappie from the James River, chasing rockfish and croaker in the Chesapeake Bay, or casting a line from a pier in the Outer Banks, he was in his element. He lived life to the fullest, a "daily unexpected visitor" who believed the best days weren't measured by tasks, but by the friends he visited and the stories he shared. He treasured the daily companionship of his brothers Roland, Harold, Ducky, and his late brother Eddie.
While he wore many hats, his favorite role was being "Doda" to his grandchildren. He wasn't just a grandfather; he was a constant, involved presence through thick and thin.
He loved "mechanical tinkering" and sharing his hands-on wisdom with his grandson, Brandon. He shared quiet moments watching movies with Kris and sharing his life's stories. He spent hours playing cards with Sara, who took on the heroic task of keeping him up-to-date with current technology. Brandon and Sara carry on his legacy of "wheeling and dealing".
From the thrill of King's Dominion and Disney World to Radford University road trips and the Chesterfield County Fair, he was always up for an adventure. He made sacrifices without complaint, always putting his family's security and happiness above his own.
As a father, he was the ultimate provider and protector, showing unconditional love to his children and a deep, steadfast respect for their mother. He was especially a pillar of strength during the most difficult times of her life, proving that true strength isn't just physical, it's the emotional fortitude to keep going for those you love.
Firm in his principles yet humble and kind, David never met a stranger. He delighted everyone with an amazing array of stories from his life's journey, delivered with a cheerful and positive attitude. He taught his family that the greatest investment one can make is in people.
Though we mourn his loss, we celebrate a man who was dependable, resilient, remarkably positive, and patient. He found joy in the small, everyday things and taught us that loyalty is the floor we all stand on and Jesus is the roof that protects us.
Thank you for being the best father and grandfather we could have asked for. Your legacy lives on in the lives you touched and the lessons you taught. We love you, we miss you, and we will continue to make you proud. Rest in peace, Dad.
A Celebration of Life honoring David will be announced by the family in the Spring.
