Daisy B.
Allen Hill
Feb 15, 1929 — Nov 7, 2025
On February 15, 1929, Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Allen proudly welcomed into their family a beautiful, angelic baby girl and named her Daisy. They were instantly filled with immense joy as they gazed proudly upon their little angel. On Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:30 P.M., after a prolonged illness, Jesus arrived at Daisy's home. He smiled upon her and whispered softly, "Well done my good and faithful servant." He wrapped her in His loving arms and escorted Daisy to her heavenly home where she will remain His beautiful angel forever.
Daisy Belle Allen Hill was educated in the Petersburg Public School System beginning at Giles B. Cooke Elementary School, onward to Henry Williams Elementary School, and graduating from Peabody High School. Academically she was very intelligent, highly creative, and extremely talented. Realizing that educational excellence is a continual journey, she continued her quest for knowledge and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education from Virginia State College in Petersburg, Virginia. At Virginia State, she was keenly focused on her studies but was also a member of the fabulous, high-stepping majorette team. On and off campus she was referred to as a "true beauty" and was pictured in the college newspaper as a Virginia State College Beauty. During her time at Virginia State, she reconnected with Leroy Hill who attended Virgina Union University in Richmond, VA. They would eventually become the love of each other's lives.
Daisy began her illustrious teaching career as a sixth-grade teacher at Annie B. Jackson Elementary School in Sussex County, VA. She was respected and admired by the students, staff, and community. During her years in Sussex County, she married Leroy Hill, and they had two beautiful and precious daughters, Linda and Marilyn. From the beginning of her daughters' lives, they became Daisy's world. She loved them unconditionally and was so proud of them. Her every thought, word, and action was centered around "her wonderful girls."
So that she could be closer to home and have more time with her husband and children, Daisy secured a sixth-grade teaching position at Virginia Avenue Elementary School in Petersburg, Va. During her tenure at this school, she made a name for herself as an outstanding professional teacher who established a classroom based on mutual respect, trust, and love. She strongly believed that all students could learn and be successful and worked hard to improve the lives of her students. After many wonderful years at Virginia Avenue Elementary School, she was highly recruited by the school division's leadership to serve as a mentor teacher to the staff of the newly built A.P. Hill Elementary School in Petersburg. As a sixth-grade teacher at this school, she served as a mentor to new and veteran teachers as she advised, modeled, and guided teachers in best practices, pedagogy, effective classroom management, and building positive relationships with stakeholders. She led by example with her commitment to academic excellence and genuine love of teaching. She received Petersburg Public Schools Teacher of the Year Award twice during her teaching tenure as a tribute to her contributions to the teaching profession and the school division. After serving the students of Petersburg Public Schools for 34 years, she retired so that she could spend all her time with her family and take on new projects. Daisy genuinely loved teaching and made a tremendous impact on hundreds of students who have gone on to become successful global citizens. In all her educational environments, she was extremely competent and professional, highly admired and respected, profoundly compassionate, and deeply appreciated by students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
Daisy's life outside of teaching centered around her family. She was an excellent and deeply loved wife and mother, a devoted sibling to her three brothers and three sisters, a loving aunt, a caring cousin, wonderful godmother, and cherished friend. Since family was always at the center of her life, she did not have much extra time to be an active and contributing member for many organizations. However, she did belong to the N.A.A.C.P., Retired Teachers of Viginia Association, Virginia State Alumni Association, National Education Association, and Virginia Education Association. She was a devout and loyal member of Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. She was immensely proud of her affiliation with all these prolific organizations.
Daisy Hill is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband and partner in marriage of 57 years, Dr. Leroy A. Hill; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard W. Allen; brothers, John, Carlton, and Herbert Allen; sisters, Emma Yates, Gladys Salter, and Mildred Minter; brother-in-law, John Hill, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ida and Delores Allen; nephew, Andre Terrangi; niece, Sandra Brown; and cherished friends, Moses and Laura Norrell, Sheldon McDuffie, Nolan Johnson, Thema Lewis.
She is survived by her beautiful, devoted daughters, Linda and Marilyn Hill both of Petersburg, VA; a very special and dedicated cousin, JoeAnn McDuffie of Dinwiddie, VA; nephews, Bernard Epps, Jr. of Charlotte NC, Keith Epps (Louanne) of King George, VA, Carlton Allen of Pittsburg, PA, John Hill III (Natalie) of Hopewell, VA, Michael Hill (Kim) of Chesterfield, VA and John Allen II of Ettrick, VA; nieces, Traci Allen of Upper Marlboro, MD, Darlene Epps of Annandale, VA, Patricia Epps of Woodbridge, VA and Judy French (Eugene) of Largo, MD; a host of great nephews, nieces, and cousins; godsons, Mark Norrell (Patrice) of Henrico, VA, Roland Lewis (Monica) of Wake Forest, NC, Marcel Kay of Fredericksburg, VA; treasured best friend, Cassandra Hines of Petersburg, VA; lifelong friends, The Honorable L. It is impossible to forget someone who has given so much to the world. The memory of Mrs. Daisy Hill will be cherished and remembered forever. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched in such wonderful ways; especially through her beautiful, devoted daughters Linda and Marilyn. Daisy will be engraved in our hearts eternally.
