Cynthia Wright-Chavis, 45, of Petersburg, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Bon Secours St. Mary Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

Cynthia graduated from Caroline County High School, Class of 1999 and from there she went onto attend Virginia State University. While there she study art, because she loves draw.  Later receiving her degree in drama and art.

After her time at Virginia State University, she joined the United States Army. After serving in the Army, she made her home in Petersburg, Virginia. "Kitten," as she was affectionately known worked in food service which she did until she was unable to work.

Kitten was a very talented artist. She used her gifts and talents to create personalized gifts for those she loved. Kitten once said, she wouldn't sell her painting, that she would only give them away because she recognized that God had given her a gift and talent to create art. She also said, who was she to sell something that God had given her, that was kind of heart Kitten had.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory with her husband, Gary Chavis who was faithful and never left her side; stepchildren, Deshawn Chavis Barnes, Dorothy Barnes Chavis, K'Vyontae Barnes, and Kemyjee Chavis; siblings, Charles Wright (Mel), Dennis Wright (Robin), Warren Wright (Thomasine), Christopher Wright (Myesha), Theresa Phillips (Scott), Teleitha Wright (Asaad) and Carlton Childs; mother-in-law, Marsha Wiggins; father-in-law, Gene Wiggins; a special cousin, Anthony "Tony" King; and her best friend, Shonda Woo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that she loved greatly.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Edward L. Fox III, eulogist.
