Cristal Wilkins
Turner
Sep 14, 1956 — Jun 9, 2025
"I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." – John 14:27
On June 9, 2025, Cristal Wilkins Turner transitioned into eternal rest at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. While she is deeply missed, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared with all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Wilkins, Sr.; brother, Michael Wilkins; paternal grandparents, Bossie Wilkins and Milery "Idella" Wilkins; maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Townsend; her in-laws, Horace and Rose Todd and Shirley Turner and Netherlands Turner.
Born on September 14, 1956, in Sussex County, Cristal was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred Wilkins Sr. and Mary Wilkins. She lived a life of service and dedication, working for 25 years at Southside Virginia Training Center, 13 years as a Mental Health Counselor, and 11 years as a Life Coach. She also served as Vice President of the Sussex PTA for one year. A proud graduate of Sussex Central High School, Class of 1975, Cristal later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from St. Paul College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, in 2006.
Cristal's faith was the foundation of her life. She was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church by Reverend Earnest Johnson. She was a former member of Signs and Wonders Ministry and later became a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Waverly, Virginia, where she served as Choir Director. She found joy in gardening, visiting thrift stores, and helping others, but above all, she cherished her family. Known affectionately as the "flower lady," Cristal's warmth, generosity, and love for life touched everyone she encountered.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her mother, Mary Wilkins Shaw; her devoted husband, Jerome Todd; former husband, Robert Turner. She is survived by her children, Robert Turner (Tracy), Tinisha Chavis, and Shaneka Turner; as well as her siblings, Alfred Wilkins, Jr., Brenda Gillus (Jeffrey), Teresa Banks (William), and Bossie Wilkins. Cristal was a proud grandmother to Tyree Giles, Tatyana Chavis, Trevion Armstrong, Triara Chavis, Alaysia Robinson, Anthony Chavis, Jr. (Elexus), Akayla Robinson, Jeremiah Smith, Jacob Smith, Harvest Dixon and Raven Curley; as well as a great-grandmother to five. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Cristal's unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will forever be remembered. As we celebrate her life, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
