Courtney N.
Washington
Mar 15, 1978 — Aug 23, 2025
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, during the softness of the early morning's glow, God whispered, 'It's time Courtney, and he gently took her hand." To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.
Courtney Nicole Washington was born on March 15, 1978, the oldest daughter of Robert and Audrey Washington. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Abundant Life Bible Mission, Petersburg, VA.
Courtney graduated in 1996, from Prince George High School. While in high school, Courtney was a member of the track and field and basketball team. Upon graduation, Courtney followed in the footsteps of her father and joined the Virginia Air National Guard. She served in the guard honorably as a Chaplain's Assistant, retiring with 20 years of service. She was employed at Capital One, Richmond, VA, for 13 years, during which time she had the opportunity to travel the world.
In 2011, knowing that the Lord was her strength and salvation, she faced her illness with the love and support of her family. She moved home with her parents. She lived each day to its fullest and found joy in taking care of her two dogs: Bandit and Dutch. She was an avid reader and always sought to educate herself on new subjects and topics that interested her. Interacting with the family and attending family gatherings were so important and special to her. Courtney's body went through so much; however, she never complained. That inner peace she gathered from the Lord was present in her smile, her attitude about life, her love for family and her never-ending faith.
Courtney was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Marion Roach Washington; Will and Jean Howell-Washington; aunt, Paula Washington-Anderson; and her uncles, Frank Penn and Jerome Washington.
Courtney leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted and loving son, Xavier; her devoted parents, Robert and Audrey Washington; sister, Charita Cox (Derrell); nephews, Brandon (Kaitlyn) and Corey Cox; niece, Layla Cox and one great niece, Analeia Cox; aunts, Carol Crockett (Homer), Judy Johnson, Robin Gregory (Eric), Bobbie Penn, Regina Washington (Wayne) and Joan Washington; uncles, Calvin (Donna) and Chadrick Washington Deborah); great aunts, Phyllis Washington, Sylvia Roach (Eugene) and Alma Howell-Blizzard; first cousins, Calvin, Candid, Chantell, Chris, Crystal, Danielle, Denzel, Deonna, Derrick, Eric, Lynette, Mareal, Marcus, Marvin, Ollie Jr., Sharnise and Tenille; and a host of many family members and friends. Special thanks to the Staff of U.S.A. Renal Care, Colonial Heights, VA.
To God be the glory for a life well-lived. Take your rest, Courtney.
