Clara E.
Hicks
Apr 3, 1940 — Apr 16, 2025
On April 16, 2025, God summoned home one of his precious angels, Clara Elizabeth Hicks of Petersburg, Virginia. Clara was residing at the home of Timothy and Becky Banks during the time of her passing.
Clara was born April 3, 1940, to Edward Turner and Rosa Bell Jennings in Victoria, Virginia. She attended Peabody High School and graduated from Virginia State College (University) and Saint Leo College. She worked at Bellwood Defense Center until retirement. She loved to play bingo and was known to travel to find a good bingo spot.
She would always have words of encouragement and for those who knew her, they would say, she was a talker and could talk for hours. She was a faithful member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Ladies Ushers Ministry along with the Joint Ushers for thirty plus years until her health started to decline. She was a member of The TRIAD Alliance of Petersburg.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest L. Hicks, son Mark L. Hicks and brother, Lewis Turner. She leaves to cherish her memories: granddaughter, Kiari Hicks of Richmond; nephews, Lewis Tuner II of Virgina Beach (Serita) and Andre Hicks of Maryland (Nadine); devoted cousin/caregivers, Timothy and Becky Banks; cousin, Eduardo Jennings; and other cousins, relatives and friends – devoted Bobbie Anderson.
Special thanks to her aides, Marlow Halloway and Chiffon Charity.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, Pastor and Rev. Herbert Holly II, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
