Christopher M.
Hawthorne
Feb 6, 1989 — Nov 15, 2025
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." - Psalm 23
Our dearest, beloved, and wonderful son, Christopher Michael Hawthorne, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Christopher, who was lovingly and affectionally known as "Chris" and "Chuck", was a beloved child born on February 6, 1989, in Petersburg, Virginia to his devoted and loving parents, Mr. Chris Michael and Mrs. Kathy Lisa Hawthorne.
Christopher was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. LeCoy and Mrs. Sarah (Coles) Hawthorne; maternal grandparents, Deacon Conrad and Deaconess Katherine (May) Pilson; aunts, Mrs. Shelia Pilson-Overstreet and Mrs. Shirley Farley; and his uncles, A1C James Larry Pilson, SGT Robert Landers Hawthorne, and Mr. Bobby Hawthorne.
Christopher was baptized by the Rev. Dr. Robert A Diggs, Sr. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church at an early age. He sang in the youth choir and served as a junior usher.
Christopher was a proud graduate of the Class of 2007, Dinwiddie High School (Go Generals!) and enjoyed playing football, whereby his father coached him when he was young. What a team they were! Christopher was what was considered a child with a heart of gold. There was nothing he would not do for anyone, regardless of the circumstances. His heart was full of love, gold and just plain goodness, with an infectious smile and laughter.
Following his high school graduation, he worked for the Federal Government at the Fort Lee Commissary for over17 years. He was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. He was a quiet young man who easily made friends. His favorite hobbies were watching football and NBA games, and loving on his parents, particularly his father, his football buddy.
His smile, love, infectious laughter, and sweet demeanor will be tremendously missed by his family and friends.
Christopher is survived by his devoted and loving parents, Mr. Chris and Mrs. Kathy Hawthorne; loving sister, Miss Stephanie Hawthorne; and his adoring niece, Miss Mechaé Garris, whom he referred to as "Scooter". He is also survived by his aunts, Miss Margaret Pilson, Mrs. Diane Tucker, and Deaconess Jacqueline Pilson; uncles, Deacon Ronnie Pilson, Mr. Stanley Hawthorne and Mr. Benjamin Hawthorne; great aunts, Evangelist Ann Crawley and Mrs. Zelda Coles; great uncles, Elder James Crawley and Mr. Daniel Coles; devoted cousins, Mrs. Adrienne Pilson McKoy (Kevin) Lieutenant Junior Officer Jonathan Allen Pilson (Stella), who were more like siblings than cousins, Mr. Melvin Tucker, Rev. Derrick Tucker, and Mrs. Kristina "Krissy" Bank (Tuffy); among numerous other cousins and countless friends, too many to name, who loved and adored him. We may not have named everyone, but we are confident that those who are dear to him know who you are.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
