Christine “Emily
Red” Jones
Mar 10, 1951 — Jun 1, 2026
Ms. Christine Jones of Hopewell, VA, affectionately known as "Emily Red", departed life on Monday, June 1, 2026, Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA, after a period of declining health surrounded by her family. She was born March 10, 1951, in Prince George, VA. She was the youngest of seven children born to the late Herman T. "Buck" Jones and Alease B. Jones.
In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Mae Jones, Sarah E. Jones and Mary Louis Smith; her one and only brother, Herman J. "Buck/June" Jones; sister-in-law, Almetra Jones; nephew, Orin T. Jones and her great nephew, JaMil T. Jones.
Christine was the family babysitter. She took great care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Christine also helped others when they needed her as well. Christine had a love for "Old School Music" and she loved to dance. She would tell anyone who thought they could dance, she could out dance them and would put that right leg up and show you.
Christine was a mother, who enjoyed celebrating with her children and family. She and her baby girl, Lisa shared the same birthday and celebrated it together every year with family and friends. Christine loved fishing with her baby boy, Bobby Lee and was ready to go when he was ready to go. She was one who spoke her mind. In her younger years, she was a softball player, who could really hit that ball as well as run. Christine was also known for her rice pudding. She was a woman who loved her family and friends. Christine loved and thanks her one an only daughter-in-law for truly being a daughter. She also shared a special love with her son-in-law as well.
Christine leaves to cherish her memories: her two devoted children, daughter, Lisa Procise (Roger) and son, Bobby Lee Jones (Katina) of Hopewell, VA; three grandchildren, Shaquona Pettaway and Lakillia White both of Hopewell, VA and Jaucoby Street of Colonial Heights, VA; ten great grandchildren, Keeniya Kelly, Quadir and Quashaun McKenney, Na'Ziyah Street, Zavion Jones, Cassius Bell, Jay'coen Sumpler, Kevin, Tajai and E'Myri McGowan all of Hopewell, VA; ten step-grandchildren, a special relationship with Joseph Holloway; two sisters, Mary J. Peterson and Rosa "Diane" Bassette both of Hopewell, VA; two aunts, Mary R. Peterson of Prince George, VA and Rosa Blanding of Hopewell, VA; one uncle, George Blanding of Hopewell, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them special friends, Linda Coleman and Yvette Morse.
Christine had a special relationship with each and every one of us. In her last days, she kept us laughing and continued to dance until the end. She sealed her love and goodbye with all that was there by giving us a hug and kiss.
