Obituary

Cheryl Venise Coker (Young) of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by the deep love of her family. Born on August 25, 1957, in Norfolk, Virginia, Cheryl was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Claudine Young.

She was raised in a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering family devotion, qualities that defined her life and were felt by everyone who knew her. Cheryl had a nurturing spirit, a gentle strength, and a heart that made room for others with ease.

A devoted mother, Cheryl's proudest accomplishments were always her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from seeing her family thrive, and she poured her heart into nurturing them with unconditional love, wisdom, and faith. She believed deeply in showing up, standing firm, and loving loudly.

Cheryl is survived by her sons, Justin Young (Wendy) and Vince Coker; her daughter, Veronica Brown (Darius); and her cherished grandchildren, Saiquan, Joshua, Landin, Ta'Niyah, Gabriel, Elijah, Kymani and Raigan who were the light of her life; her great grandchildren, Genesis, Josiah, Yinori, and Lisa; and her sisters, Charlene Young-Jones and Debra Grant. She also leaves behind her two loving nieces, Christina Young and Stephanie Grant; three nephews, Horace Eure, Steven Grant and Marcus Grant; a host of loving family members, dear friends, Linda Taylor and Lori Joyner who will forever treasure her kindness, strength, and grace. Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Ernestine Hawkins.

Cheryl will be remembered for her nurturing soul, her quiet resilience, her infectious laughter, and the way she made people feel seen and loved. Heavy on loved because if you didn't have or was without, she would open her doors to you and give what she had. Her legacy lives on through the lives she shaped, the love she gave freely, and the family she held together with unwavering devotion.

Though she has transitioned from this life, Cheryl's love remains everlasting, etched into the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Our family thanks all of you who have supported us during these times.
