Charlie L.
“Lin” Lewis
Sep 19, 1947 — Sep 26, 2025
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." – 2 Timothy 3:14-15
Charlie "Lin" Lewis, of Chesterfield, VA, departed this life on September 26, 2025, at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA.
Charlie is a native of Chesterfield County, VA. He worked at N. B. Goodwyn and Sons for 46 years before retiring. He was the Lewis family Patriarch and often referred to as "The Big Cheese" because he led the family with a strong and loving hand. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and could be seen sitting in front of the TV watching every game with excitement and anticipation. In addition to being a family man, he was a skillful fisherman and hunter. All meaningful traits that he passed down to his sons as he guided them to the path of manhood.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Linwood Lewis, Sr., and Julia Henrietta "Duck" Lewis; sisters, Laura Evans, Alice Foster, Dorothy Smith and Beatrice Mayfield; brother, Rite Tyrone Lewis; father and mother-in-law, Deacon Sam T. Mosby and Deaconess Mildred Mosby; sisters-in-law, Margaret Surley, Annie Spencer and Carrie Booker; and his brothers-in-law, Dennis Mosby, Herman Coleman, Ollie Trent, John Mosby, Claiborne Mosby, William Henry Smith and Harvey "Gerald" Mosby.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted partner in crime, best friend and cousin, Roger Jones (Day), his devoted wife of 54 years, Mabel Lewis; sons, Guy Lewis (Charlene) and Bryant Lewis (Tenecia); nieces/ honorary daughters, Beatrice Gidget Priest (Waun) and Jessica Smith (Alex); grandchildren, Xaviar Lewis (Brittany), Dreshawn Ellsworth, Treshaun Ellsworth, Carlos Tyler, Carla Lewis, Nicole Beuns and Brandon Robertson; great grandchildren, Dynastee Ellsworth, Semirra Beuns, and Kelicia Parker; sisters, Hilda Trent, Barbara Mosby and Delois Cuspard (Herman); brothers, Harold and Fred Walker; sisters-in-law, Ruth Coleman, Linda Lewis and Novella Jones (James); brothers-in-law, (devoted) Thomas Mosby, Jr. (Lisa), Cecil Evans and (devoted) Irvin Surley; aunt, Regina Jefferson and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
The family would like to also thank his nephew, Kerry Williams, "the paperwork guy"; the resident barbers, James Thomas Branch and nephew, Linwood Tyrone Williams; and nephews, Darryl Thomas and Roosevelt Mayfield who were the "moving company" for The Big Cheese, and lastly, the home health nurse that provided care in the home.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 4, 2025, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA. The interment to follow at The Lewis Family Cemetery.
