Carrie Munford Nedrick "Sue"

Carrie “Sue” Munford Nedrick was born on March 9, 1937, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, to the late Charlie and Lessie Munford. From these humble beginnings grew a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to family. Sue peacefully transitioned on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

In 1953, Sue married William “Sonny” Nedrick, beginning a loving 65-year partnership that lasted until his passing in 2018. Together, they made their home in Petersburg, Virginia, where they raised their six children and built a family rooted in love, strength, and togetherness.

Faith was at the heart of Sue’s life and guided the love and care she so freely shared with others. Baptized as a child at Olive Branch Baptist Church, she later joined Sonny at Tabernacle Baptist Church. There, she served with joy and dedication in the Pastor’s Aide and Missionary Ministries, faithfully holding the roles of both secretary and president.

Sue’s greatest joy was her family. A devoted mother, she worked nights so she could be present for her six spirited children, offering them steady love, guidance, and support. In time, her heart and home grew even fuller as she shared in the lives of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Sue’s caring spirit reached far beyond her own family. Throughout the Blandford community, she was known for welcoming her children’s friends and neighbors in need with a safe place, a warm meal, and a kind word. She and Sonny also created happy memories for neighborhood children through special outings to the beach and fishing trips.

At Petersburg Training School, Sue cared for her patients with the same kindness, compassion, and patience she brought to every part of her life. Her example left a lasting impression on her children and grandchildren, many of whom proudly followed in her footsteps by choosing careers in the medical profession.

Sue was welcomed into eternal rest by loved ones who went before her: her parents, Charlie and Lessie Munford; her beloved husband, Sonny Nedrick; her son, William Nedrick, Jr.; her brothers, James “JC,” Charles, and Robert Lee Munford; her sisters, Stella Roney and Henritta Roney; her grandsons, Ryan Nedrick and James Andrews “JD”; and her great-grandson, Waekuon Johnson.

Sue leaves a beautiful legacy of love that will be cherished by:

Daughters: Constance Nedrick-Armstrong (Randy) of Lorton, Virginia; and Wilma Nedrick, Gail Nedrick, Belinda Nedrick, and Vera Nedrick-Jones of Petersburg, Virginia.

Sister: Mildred Tucker (Linwood) of Petersburg, Virginia.

Grandchildren: Monte Nedrick (Shelita) of Dinwiddie, Virginia; Renada Nedrick of Ettrick, Virginia; Lesli Kelsey (Ronald) of Chesterfield, Virginia; Johnee Nedrick, Garon Nedrick, and Chanel Johnson of Petersburg, Virginia; Danielle Armstrong of Lorton, Virginia; Maya Armstrong of New York, New York; Shelby Suemitsu (Lyle) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; and Constance Gray (Bryan) of Hopewell, Virginia.

Her memory will also be lovingly carried forward by 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; bonus children Edith Trent (Ernie), Edna Davenport (Ronald), and Rayfield Williams; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors whose lives she touched.

Lifetime Friends

Among those who will hold Sue especially close in their hearts are her lifelong friends, Betty Sue Harrison and Doris Sydnor, whose treasured friendship brought joy and companionship through the years.

A Lasting Legacy

Sue’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, perseverance, faith, and quiet strength. She gave generously of herself, cared deeply for others, and made those around her feel welcome and loved. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the kindness she shared will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
