Obituary

"I Have Fought the Good Fight. I Have Finished the Race. I Have kept the Faith..." -2 Timothy 4:7

Carlen Roosevelt Walker, Jr., "Juna," transitioned to his heavenly home on February 15, 2026, at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Carlen was born on February 16, 1949, in Petersburg Virginia. He was the eldest son of the late Carlen Walker Sr. and Dorothy Hazelwood Walker-Putney. Carlen was a proud graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1969.

Carlen was a United States Army Vietnam War veteran who served honorably. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device. He earned the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with a M-16 Rifle Bar.

Following his active-duty service, Carlen continued his commitment to his country by serving in the Army National Guard for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Even after his military retirement, he remained devoted to supporting the mission of the National Guard as a civilian employee until his retirement.

Carlen was a quiet man who was seen as a father figure to many throughout his life. He enjoyed being at home, spending quiet time to himself, watching television, and tending to his flowers. He loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews dearly. He valued time with his friends, co-workers, family, and neighbors, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met, even in brief encounters. He especially enjoyed talking with young people and encouraging them to pursue their goals while offering guidance and wisdom.

Carlen was preceded in death by his parents, Carlen Walker, Sr. and Dorothy Hazelwood Walker-Putney; his brothers, Warren Walker and Michael Walker; and his son, Jason Ronald Walker.

Carlen leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted and loving wife, Dr. Karen Anderson-Walker, a loving and devoted son, Carlen "CJ" Walker III (Shavon) of Ettrick, Virginia; a loving and devoted daughter, Courtney M. Walker of Temple Hills, Maryland; a stepson, Theron Terry (Jennifer) of Cary, North Carolina; a brother, Ronald Walker (Kimberly) of Chesterfield, Virginia; a sister, Gloria W. Savoy (Randy) of Richmond, Virginia; a devoted niece, Kidada Saunders of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren, Alexus Walker, Kamari Walker, Aleiyah Morning, Messiah Walker, and Kashus Walker; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who lives were touched by his presence.
