Cameron Jay
Thornton "Cam"
Dec 4, 2009 — Mar 25, 2026
Our hearts were saddened by the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Cameron "Cam" Thornton. He was called home March 25, 2026, at HCA Virginia Chippenham Hospital. Cam was born December 4, 2009, at Johnston-Willis Hospital to Jasmine M. Brown and Isaac E. Thornton III. From the moment he entered this world, Cam radiated joy, curiosity, and a gentle strength that touched everyone around him. He was a young man of character, compassion, and perseverance, whose smile could light up any room.
Cam was preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather, Leroy Hicks, Sr. and paternal great grandparents, Isaac E. Thornton, Sr. and Judith Thornton; and uncle, Lexuss Thornton. While we grieve his passing, we find comfort in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, embraced by God's unfailing love.
He leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by his devoted mother, Jasmine Brown of Chester, Virginia; his father, Isaac E. Thornton III of Rhode Island; and his loving devoted sisters, Alaya Smith of Chester, Virginia and Amaya Thornton of Rhode Island. Cam was deeply loved by his grandmothers, Stephanie Brown (Daryl) of Chester, Virginia and Darsay Hicks of Mattapan, Massachusetts and his grandfathers, Jerry Brown (Whitney) of New Rochelle, New York and Isaac E. Thornton. Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts.
He is also remembered by his great grandparents, Elsie Gholson of Matoaca, Virginia, Sterling Gholson of Dinwiddie, Virginia and Edith Hicks of Mattapan, Massachusetts. Cam's extended family brought him immense joy, including his devoted uncles, Brandon Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jermaine Brown (Tonya) of Whitsett, North Carolina, Daryl Gholson of Greensboro, North Carolina, Justin Brown of New Rochelle, New York, Andrew Thornton and Jalen Thornton of Boston, Massachusetts; and his aunt, Arielle Brown of New Rochelle, New York.
He was further blessed by the love of his great aunts, Loretha Crockett (Bill) of Hopewell, Virginia, Veronica Rivers (Raymond) of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Mary Harris of Petersburg, Virginia; and his great uncles, Herbert Brown (Audree) of Freeman, Virginia and Leroy Hicks, Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts. Cam shared a special bond with his devoted cousins, Lundyn Gholson of Greensboro, North Carolina, Jaden Brown and Nandi Brown both of Whitsett, North Carolina and Dakari Hicks of Mattapan, Massachusetts.
A guiding presence in his life was his devoted father figure, Sterling Smith of Richmond, Virginia, whose love and support meant the world to Cam. He was also deeply cherished by his devoted girlfriend, Jada Thorne; and his close friends, Donte, Chris, Malik, Jordan, Jacob and Deas; along with many special family members and friends whose lives he touched in unforgettable ways.
Cam was a proud sophomore student at Thomas Dale High School, where he was a member of the JROTC, demonstrating discipline, leadership, and honor beyond his years. He also attended and played football for Matoaca High School and proudly represented the Beulah Colts in the Chesterfield Athletic Association, playing both football and basketball. Whether on the field or off, Cam played with heart, integrity, and passion.
In his quieter moments, Cam found joy in playing video games, expressing himself through fashion, listening to music, and talking on the phone. These simple pleasures reflected his creativity, warmth, and zest for life traits that will be dearly missed yet forever remembered.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we trust in God's promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Cam's light will never fade; it will continue to shine through every life he touched, until we meet again.
