"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - II Timothy 4:7
On February 25, 2026, God summoned Calvin Lorenzo Young home to take his rest. Calvin was born on September 29, 1953, to the late Melvin Young, Sr. and Ruth Scott Bowers in Suffolk, VA. Calvin was affectionately known as "Lo" by his family and friends.
Calvin was also preceded in death by his brother, Melvin "Bud" Young, Jr.
Calvin was baptized at St. Phillips Holiness Church in Suffolk, VA. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School, Home of the Red Raiders, Class of 1974, where he was awarded All-District Defensive Tackle in football. He also excelled in basketball, playing the forward and center positions. Calvin attended Virginia Union University on a full athletic scholarship. He was an outstanding linebacker and earned All-CIAA Honors at VUU from 1974–1978. Calvin became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Gamma Chapter, in the Spring of 1976. The name of the line was "The Dreaming Five."
Upon retirement, he was employed with Hiram Davis Medical Center in Dinwiddie, VA, and Adult Health Care Solutions in Petersburg, VA.
Calvin was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins).
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted companion, Tracey D. Reed of Petersburg, VA; two bonus children, Denitra D. Reed of Petersburg, VA and Ricky L. He also leaves devoted friends, Lloyd Harding of Suffolk, VA, Sterling Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael Bowles of Brandywine, MD and Sylvia Bonner of Dinwiddie, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to name.
