Obituary

With an immeasurable love, we celebrate the life of Azarieus Josziah Wooden-Hill, better known as "Big Dude", who departed this life on June 14, 2026, at the age of 17. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact he made on the hearts of those who knew and loved him will last forever.

Born March 16, 2009, in Virginia, Azarieus was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend, student, and teammate in life. He was the cherished son of Gary Hill and Shanae Wooden-Hill, who loved him beyond measure and were endlessly proud of the young man he was becoming.

Azarieus was a student at Hopewell High School and proudly employed by the City of Colonial Heights. He had ambitious dreams for his future and looked forward to serving his country by joining the United States Navy after graduation. His determination and sense of responsibility reflected the remarkable young man we saw him growing into.

Those who knew Big Dude will remember his gentle spirit and unforgettable smile. He was easygoing and soft-spoken, yet his presence filled every room. He had a natural ability to make others laugh with his jokes, playful personality, and spontaneous dance moves. He loved sports, gaming, and spending quality time with family and friends. Whether cheering on his favorite teams, enjoying a video game, or just relaxing with loved ones, Big Dude found joy in life's simple moments.

Growing up, Azarieus was a faithful attendee of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he learned values of faith, and he carried throughout his life. Above all else, Big Dude treasured his family. He shared a special bond with his siblings, De'Quan Wooden, Ty'Nayia Wooden-Hill, and Nevaeh Wooden-Hill. He was not only their brother but also their protector, confidant, and biggest supporter. He looked out for them, encouraged them, laughed with them, and loved them unconditionally. The memories they created together, the jokes, conversations, games, and countless moments of sibling love will forever remain in their hearts.

To his mother, Big Dude was her "hip baby". No matter how much he grew, he never lost the sweet and lovable charm that made him so special. Even as a teenager, he carried an innocence and tenderness that drew people to him. His smile could brighten the darkest day, and his loving spirit made everyone feel valued.

Azarieus leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Though we grieve deeply, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and lives he touched. His memory will continue to inspire all of us who love him to live with compassion, joy, and loyalty to family.

Azarieus was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, Shirley Hill, his devoted uncle, Joseph Wooden, and more cherished family whose lasting memories he carried. While their absence was felt throughout the years, their love never faded.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving parents, Gary Hill and Shanae Wooden-Hill; his grandmothers, Jacqueline Wooden, and Yvette Morse; grandfathers, Joseph Williams (Trina Williams) and Larry Hill, Sr.; siblings, De'Quan Wooden, Ty'Nayia Wooden-Hill, Nevaeh Wooden-Hill, a cousin who is more of a sister, Ny'Kerah Evans-Wooden; his beloved niece, Kiora Jordan; his aunts, Mataya Wooden, Wanda Hill, and Nikki Hill; his uncles, Marquee Wooden, Tyrell Hill, Renzo Hill, and Larry Hill, Jr.; and a host of loving cousins, his extended family members, and devoted friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Though we wish we had more time, we are grateful for every moment we had here on earth with you Dude. Your life was a gift, your love was genuine, and your memory will live on forever.

"Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not." -Forever17
