Antrynette Sydnor
Walker-Hall
Aug 31, 1931 — Mar 23, 2025
It is with profound sadness yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Dr. Antrynette Sydnor Walker-Hall, age 93, who entered into eternal rest on March 23, 2025. Our queen and matriarch earned her wings. A woman of remarkable faith, unwavering dedication, and boundless compassion, she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Antrynette was born in Chesterfield, Virginia, to Rainey Tucker and raised by her step-father, Morris Tucker. Her early life was shaped by strong Christian values that would guide her entire journey. She had a strict upbringing having been reared by her Grandma Annie who emphasized the early teachings of Jesus Christ as her Savior. She often stated that her longevity was attributed to the avoidance of alcohol, commitment to Christ, and the inability to attend parties while growing up.
Her life was centered on teaching others about Christ, caring for the sick and shut-in, and mentoring all who inspired to lead. She had an innate way of nurturing novice minister wives, lifting them up, and providing counsel. She was a natural born leader often elected by her peers in the role of president or chair. She was never in the member's only club for she strived to lead and to impact sustainable change. For those who knew Antrynette, would attest that she commanded a room. Her radiant smile, stern looks, and use of gestures were telling. Her love for others was infectious. She was a servant leader by all accounts. Antrynette was a graduate proud of Peabody High School and she continued service and membership working with the Peabody High School National Alumni Association over the years. She matriculated at Virginia State College (University) and later completed Christian Studies along with obtaining her Doctor of Christian Education from Lynchburg Seminary College later serving as its inaugural female chair. She was a life-long learner and committed to learning various trades where she developed leadership skills that would later define her service in churches and communities.
Her gifts were bountiful. She could sing and hum like a mocking bird. Her oratory skills were first-class. She was an invited speaker for Women's Day or any given occasion. Later in life, she became an ordained minister. She was celebrated and honored by many groups. Her affiliations included: Past Virginia State President of the Minister's Wives and Widow's Association of Virginia, Former President of Bethany's Baptist Woman's Association, and Past President of Virginia State Baptist Association Woman's Auxiliary. She was a previous member of the Red Hatter's of Petersburg, Virginia, for a short period of time.
As the devoted wife of the late Reverend James Lee Walker and later the late Reverend Dr. Elijah Hall, she embraced her calling as First Lady with grace and wisdom. Her ministry extended far beyond the walls of their churches, touching countless lives through her genuine care and spiritual guidance. She served as First Lady at First Baptist Church-West Petersburg, Marmora Baptist Church, St. John Baptist Church, and a short-lived term at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. As State President of the Minister's Wives Association, she united and empowered women in ministry across the region, creating networks of support and fellowship that flourish to this day. She served as President of the Minister's Wives at both a local and state level.
Her pioneering spirit led her to become the first woman to chair the Board of Trustees at Lynchburg Seminary College breaking barriers and opening doors for women in church leadership. She served on the Board for the Baptist Children's Home (The Children's Home of Virginia Baptist) where she honed her finance skills. Her commitment to education and spiritual formation influenced institutional policies that continue to shape Christian scholars across the lifespan.
In her community, Antrynette was known as a tireless advocate for championing support for older family members, senior citizens, and children. Her work in recreation led to the collaborative creation of the Happy Hour Senior Citizen's Club at Harding Street Recreation Center and later transferred that group to A.P. Hill Community Center where it continued to flourish. Most notably was the impact in nurturing young minds in her role as kindergarten director and teacher of several children and families in the Tri-City region. She ensured that many had after-school care and were cared for in the home of her mother-in-law, Ma Relia as she fondly called her. Many followed her for years and would acknowledge her in community settings. Her home was always open, her counsel always available, and her generosity limitless. She mentored countless individuals, particularly young women, teaching by example how to live with purpose, dignity, and unwavering faith.
Her time was spent volunteering as a receptionist at Tucker's Funeral Home, co-anchor for a short-term with the Gospel Truth featuring Reverend Vernon Billy Lee and Experience that was broadcast on WXEX-8 (WRIC-8), volunteer telephonic worker before the era of telehealth with Contact assisting and counseling individuals in acute crisis. She was a volunteer Chaplain at Southside Regional Medical Center (Bon Secours Southside Medical Center), an assistant with Upward Bound, and the list goes on. She served as wedding coordinator and assisted many brides with planning. She was extraordinaire in her role as a queen, leader, pioneer, forecaster, thought leader, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, counselor, preacher, friend, confidante, and more.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Morris Tucker whose bond was inseparable; mother, Rainey Tucker; brothers, Ernest Field, Leroy A. Fields, and Charles Fields; sister, Lillie Mae Mcray; daughter-in-law, Patricia Walker; two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, grandson, and numerous beloved aunts and uncles.

Thank you to Shirley A. Pegram who assisted her following the death of Reverend Hall.
Queen, matriarch, trailblazer, servant-leader-Antrynette embodied the virtues described in Proverbs 31, living with strength and dignity, speaking with wisdom, and watching over the affairs of her household and community with care. Her life was a testament to the transformative power of faith expressed through love and service.
