Obituary

Anthony Lyons, Sr., affectionately known by many as "Capone, Amp, or John Boy", departed this life on July 16, 2025, at his home on 315 St. Luke Street, Petersburg, VA. Anthony was a beloved husband, father, son and friend. His presence left a lasting impact on all who had the blessing of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Wilson, Sr.; devoted aunt, Berthina Lyons Chambliss; grandfather, Ervin T. Lyons, Jr.; cousins, Marcus and DeMarcus Chambliss; brothers, Keith Lyons and Ricky Wilson; and cherished loved ones, Roderick Johnson and Ruth Claiborne.

Anthony shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Shelley Lyons. The two were joined in marriage on November 11, 2013, and together they built a life filled with laughter, strength, and unwavering devotion.

A dedicated employee of Boar's Head for 17 years, Anthony took pride in his work and was known for his unmatched charm and a smile that could light up any room. He always had a witty remark or an unforgettable story ready for anyone lucky enough to spend time with him.

Educated in the Petersburg Public School System, Anthony had a hustler's spirit and an unshakable determination that made no problem too big or small. He was a man of many passions—he loved to cook, dress sharp, and above all, dance. Music of all kinds filled his soul, and he could stay on the dance floor all night long.

Above everything, Anthony was a devoted father. He often said his three children saved his life, but those who knew him would say his strength, wisdom, and love saved them. He was a father figure to many—offering guidance, protection, and heartfelt support.

Anthony's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. His spirit, strength, and stories will never be forgotten.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Mamie Lancaster; devoted wife, Shelley Lyons; three loving children, Tawanna Priest, Anthony Lyons, Jr. and Dominic Thornhill; maternal sisters, Sabrina Lyons, Berthina Weaver, Marquette Lyons (Al), and Roselyn Lyons; paternal siblings, Paula Wilson, Karen Dean, DeAnna Lewis, Latanja Rogers, Jerry Wilson, Paul Wilson (Samantha), Kevin Thorpe, and Michael Blowe (Tarsha); grandchildren, Kross Reginal Anthony Thornhill and Journi Dior Lyons; bonus children, Derrick Graves (Patria) and Kerri Dennis; bonus grandchildren, Shire' Graves, Shanniyya Williams, Derrick Graves Jr., and Cody Graves; cherished nieces and nephews, Ashley Lyons, Alexis Lyons, Shamon Lyons, Andre Lyons (Shaneka), Veldez Diggs, Shavon Lyons and Jeremiah Boothe; devoted bonus niece, Ebony Graves; lifelong friends and chosen family, The Pin Oaks Crew of 1973–1995; mothers of his children, Yolanda Lyons and Tyvania Foster; and a host of extended family including the Priest/Jones Family and the Blakes Family.
