Mother Anna Frances Taylor was born, December 29, 1933 and lived to be a grand 92 years of age! She had presence of mind, an excellent spirit, a wonderful laugh and a serious demeanor. She was a thoughtful and understanding person that would share whatever she had with whoever was in need.
Raised in a Christian household, where God was the source of all their resources, she devoted her early years of service to her parents, working on the farm. Chopping peanuts, picking cotton, planting watermelon, peas, string beans and cabbage, which gave her an appreciation of her heritage and developed her strong character. Frances, as she was affectionately referred, took those lessons of life and grew into a woman that loved people, and she demonstrated it by her commitment to serve. She worked at Gladys & Jarrett Restaurant as a cook and did domestic work for Raymond & Ida Ezelle, and Mr. Miller McGee. She never complained, but took a day at a time.
She was a quiet giant that gave her service to the love of her church and church family, Calvary Baptist Church, Yale, Virginia, working with the hospitality, and community base committees such as visiting the sick and shut in, and as a member of the missionary choir. Through the years Frances remained faithful to the work of the Lord and did whatever she could to perpetuate the ministry. At the end of her tenure at Calvary, she was installed as "Church Mother", a position she served with reverence.
Frances faithfully supported her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in whatever occasion or event they had going on. She made it a point to be in attendance, even when her body slowed down, her spirit did not. Frances had a drive that kept her on the road fellowshipping, riding to this place or that place. As long as she had transportation, Frances would ride. She demonstrated, through her life, how to live, love, fellowship, and support family with good intentions. It wasn’t a struggle for her to show love, because she had so much to give.
Our precious Mother Anna Frances Taylor entered into eternal rest at Bons Secours (Southside Regional Medical Center), Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones. Without a struggle, she peacefully surrendered to the Will of God, as her spirit returned to the Lord whom she loved and served.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Martha Taylor; her son, Alvin “Smiley” Taylor (in June 2026); her brothers, Robert Taylor, John Jones, Edward Lee Taylor, Isaac “Bubba” T. Taylor, Clifford “Buck” Taylor, William “Will” W. Taylor, and Joe Richard Taylor; her sisters, Carrie Raines, Nancy Raines, Minnie Brown and Hattie Godette; her son-in-law, Alfred “Peter” Alonzo Roney; and her grandchildren, Tamisha Green, Ashley Walker, Melvin D. Taylor, Jr., and her beloved life partner for many years, Sidney Massenburg.
Survived to cherish and honor her memory is her sons, Charles Taylor (Christine); Melvin D. Taylor, Sr. (Sharon); Jerome Taylor (Tawanda) and Kenneth Taylor; daughters, Barbara Walker (Harold); Carolyn Roney; Detra Jones, and Netra Taylor-Goodwin (Wilson); sisters, Fanny Taylor, and Vestine Bonner; sister-in-law, Gladys Taylor; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
