Our hearts were full of sadness as our dearly beloved Rev. Alvin Purcelle Hope was suddenly taken away from us on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Rev. Alvin Purcelle Hope was born to the late Alice Henley and Eugene Hope, Sr. on March 17, 1956. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one brother, and his son.

He leaves to cherish his devoted wife, Connie of 36 years; three daughters, one devoted, Alesha, and 8 grandchildren. The twins were the apple of his eye and his heartbeat. He took Jo'el under his wing as if he were his own and never let him go. He is survived by three brothers; one sister; seven sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends including three dedicated golf buddies.

He was educated in Louisa County Public Schools and later on went to receive his barber license. He became a master barber as well as a Barber Instructor, in which he gave back to the community by providing his professional services to the church, homeless shelters, and hosting back to school drives. Alvin was also ordained to preach in December 2015 and was enrolled in Andersonville Theological School in which he was proud to make the Dean's List.

Alvin was a pillar of strength and a source of endless support for his family. He was known for his unwavering work ethic, his passion for gardening, golfing, fishing, and spending quality time with his family. He also enjoyed singing, playing the drums with his daughter while she played the piano, and had an infectious sense of humor. Alvin always put his family first, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Kassandra Bullock, Pastor.
