Obituary

Alice Marie Beatrix Sutherlin-Carson, 86, was born on August 4, 1938, in Danville, Virginia to Frank and Irene Davis. She departed this life on August 3, 2025, at her residence in Chester, VA.

Alice received her early education through the Danville Public School System and graduated from Langston High School. She went on to earn her degree from Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ and further pursued her passion for fashion by studying seamstress work at a local trade school.

Alice began her career in the Willingboro Public School System after settling in Willingboro, NJ. Upon retirement, she moved to Chester, VA and founded Fashions by Alyce and Alvin, a formalwear design, creative hat design and alteration business she operated for over thirty years. She was also an accomplished real estate investor, focused on home rehabilitation and community improvement.

Affectionately known as the "Golden Girl", a nickname lovingly given by her mother, Alice was admired for her elegant style and signature blonde bob with a hat. She often said, "If I don't get a compliment when I go out, I did something wrong." Her elegance, confidence, and charm left a lasting impression wherever she went.

In 1987, Alice married the love of her life, Elester Carson, on Valentine's Day. Together, they shared a life of devotion and deep love until her peaceful transition.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene Davis; siblings, Susie, Larry, Jesse, Frank, Thomas and Willie Mae; and two stepsons, Norman Carson and Rodney Carson.

Alice is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Elester Carson; sons, Alvin Jr., Gregory Lamar and Norman Sharmar; siblings, William "Bill" Davis (Christine), John Davis (Leila), Bay Warfield and Claudia Weir (Kensworth); devoted friends, Ann Brown, Diana James, Cheryl Toomer, Janie Richardson, Brenda Story, Terry Seaborn, Jerry and Dot;  and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends in Chester, VA and New Jersey.

Alice was a devoted mother, loving wife, proud sister, and cherished friend. Her love, strength, and timeless grace will remain in our hearts forever.
