Albert O.
Reid, Jr.
Mar 26, 1954 — Nov 6, 2025
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23
Albert Otis Reid, Jr. 71, of Ettrick, Virginia, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 6, 2025. He was born on March 26, 1954, in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Theresa and Albert Reid, Sr. Throughout his life, Albert exemplified faith, humility, and service to others.
Albert was a proud graduate of Matoaca High School, Class of 1972. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in biology from Norfolk State University, where he also served as a trainer for the football team where they affectionately called him "Doc". His commitment to excellence and teamwork extended beyond the classroom, reflecting his passion for helping others succeed, both academically and personally. Albert later earned a master's degree in vocational and Technical Education from Virginia State University and became a doctoral candidate at Virginia Tech University, continuing his lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Albert dedicated 28 years of faithful service to Virginia State University as a Research Specialist and Professor in the Department of Agriculture. His passion for education and 4-H Aquatic Science inspired countless students to explore environmental and agricultural fields. In partnership with Virginia Tech University, he helped implement 4-H programs that provided hands-on learning opportunities for youth across Virginia.
His outstanding leadership and dedication were recognized by both the National and State FFA Associations, which honored him with the H.O. Sargent Award for promoting diversity within agricultural education and the FFA. Albert's mentorship, kindness, and patience touched the lives of many students and colleagues who continue to carry forward his legacy.
After a distinguished career, Albert retired from Virginia State University on May 8, 2018. He will always be remembered for his quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Eric Reid.
Albert leaves to cherish his memory: his loving children, Albert Reid III and Sabrina Reid; cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Trenton Reid; devoted siblings, Terrie Reid (Brian DeGeare), Deborah Kouri, and Marcus Reid; the mother of his children, Daisy Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
Albert Reid was a devoted, hardworking father that provided for his family. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy was one of faith, knowledge, and service that will forever be remembered.
