Agnes Thorne

Agnes P. Thorne of Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her residence on October 15, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born to the late Mr. Fred and Mrs. Anna Pulley.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Thorne, Sr., and her four children, Agnes Ann Thorne, Melinda Roberts, James Lee Thorne, Sr., and Clinton Thorne, Jr.

Affectionately known as "Sister," Agnes was widely recognized as a tireless worker who generously shared her talents with everyone around her. She loved to cook, providing countless meals for family and friends. Her home was the center of holiday gatherings, where she ensured no one ever left hungry. She was a fabulous homemaker, a loving caregiver, and firmly believed that "a clean home was a happy home." She also loved going to baseball games, often helping to prepare food for fans and players. She was deeply loved by many and will be dearly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Robert R. Thorne (Arlene) of Prince George, VA; her daughter-in-law, Michelle Thorne of Petersburg, VA; and her sister, Susie P. Allen of Petersburg, VA, with whom she spent many hours on the phone and enjoyed traveling with as her "riding buddy." She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she deeply loved, including one devoted granddaughter, Erica Roberts, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A special thank you to Rev. William H. Roberts, Jr. (“Billy”), who was like a son to her. He checked on her regularly, sharing coffee, laughs, and a cherished friendship that spanned over 50 years.

Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Monday, October 26, 2026, in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. William H. Roberts, Jr., eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
